Emphasizing Your Keywords

Keywords

Gather some idea on keyword selection before starting your website's SEO campaign. This is the most important step before starting any kind of SEO campaign.
You must select such keywords which are frequently searched in Google. Why Google? Because Google covers 70% of total internet searches every year.
Keywords are the words people type into a search box when they’re looking for something online. The search engine uses the keywords to decide which web pages to deliver in the results pages. That’s why keywords are crucial to your online marketing – use them in your web site copy and you can rank well on Google, Yahoo, MSN or any other search engine, ignore them and your pages will rarely be found.

Keyword Analysis

The thousands of keywords results you get from your keyword research are full of surprises and opportunities. To get the most from these results you need to analyze and prioritize them in terms of the traffic they can produce and the competition you will face.

Keyword Strategy

Once you've researched and analyzed your keywords, you need a keyword strategy to get the best search engine results. The foundation of your strategy is a list of prioritized keywords, organized in themes corresponding to the needs of your target markets.

When your keywords are bad: Bad Keyword Selection

Say you have a set of keywords or search terms which you have selected for your site's SEO campaign and SEO optimized your website for Google YAHOO! Top ranking. Spent $$$ & at last achieved Top 10 Ranking in Google Yahoo on your keyword. But still no real traffic!!! Because in reality nobody searches with your search terms. This is an example of BAD KEYWORD SELECTION.

Very High Competition Keyword Selection is not at all wise decision

This is also one kind of bad keyword selection specially for a SEO starter website.

It might seem to you very profitable to start SEO on a keyword which has 1,00,000 or 1 Million search volume per month or even more search volume. But if your website is a new one, and just launched, then this could be very frustrating and might take a year or more to get top 10 ranking in Google Yahoo bing. It is very natural that after 3 or 4 months your site will not even in top 50 or top 100 positions.

Which keywords should you optimize your site for?

In this article, we focus on the correct way of finding out the keywords for which you should optimize your site for the search engines.

Once you've optimized your site for those keywords, in order to get top rankings, you then need to build your link popularity by getting other sites to link to yours.

This article will give you the formula for the keyword Effectiveness -a mathematical formula which i have developed to help you determine which keywords you should be optimizing your site for.

Open your text editor or word processor and write down all the words and phrases that you might have searched for it you were looking for a company which offers products and services similar to yours. For example, suppose your company organizes packaged tours to India. Here's a list of phrases that I might have searched for if I were planning to make a trip to India:

Tourism in India

Travel to India

Travelling in India

Travel agencies in India

Travelling agencies India

India travel agencies

Of course, the keywords that come to your mind may have been different. But that's not important- the important thing is to get an initial list of keywords.

You may be wondering why i have not used single word keywords. Here's why:

First, Single word keywords tend to be hyper-competitive. A search for "tourism" or "travelling" in any search engine will probably generate hundreds of thousands of pages. While it is possible that you may get your page in the top 10 for such a single word keyword, it is quite unlikely.

Secondly, because of the sheer number of pages that single word searches can throw up, most search engine users have realized that they can get more relevant pages if they search for phrases rather than individual words. Statistical research has shown that most people are now searching for 2 or 3 word phrases rather than for single words.

Thirdly, single word keywords won't get you targeted traffic. When people search for "tourism" they are not necessarily looking for tourist destinations in India - they may be interested in any other country of the world. Even if you got your site into the top 10 for tourism. You gain nothing from such visitors. However, when someone searches for "tourism in India", He/She is your potential customer, and hence, it makes sense for you to try and get top ranking for your site for that keyword.

Hence, whenever you are trying to generate keywords, try to be location specific. Try to think of keywords which apply to the geographic area that your product or service is designed to serve.
